Tigre dans les jungles is a remarkable study prior to the production of a celebrated lithograph which would be reproduced in the prominent revue L'Estampe Originale run by Paul Marty and for which Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Grasset, Bonnard, Renoir, Redon or Vallotton also each produced several well-known examples of their work. Possessed of significant graphic power, Ranson's image here evokes a Tiger bounding through the tropical undergrowth. The sinuous rhythm of the lines lends the work a strength which is comparable to the celebrated whiplash curves of Victor Horta or the organic creations of Hector Guimard.
